Office 2003 and MBSA

I have begun getting the following error in MBSA when scanning Office:

"Error occurred while checking for Office updates. Error processing patch
data for Office Update Inventory Tool. 030009"

I have tried updating office from OfficeUpdate and also repaired the office
installation, neither seems to have made a difference.

Does any one have any suggestions?

My goal is to be able to get a complete scan with MBSA again.
