Office 2003 and Office 2007

Hello!

I am keen to upgrade my Office to 2007 version, but was told that it is very
different from Off 2003.

So before I get myself conversant with it, can I install Off 2007 and make
it co-exist with Off 2003? Will the Off 2003 be overwritten after installing
Off 2007?

Thanks.

You can install Office 2007 along side 2003 as long as you dont install
Outlook.

If you decide to go this route please know that Oulook 2007 and Outlook 2003
cannot coexist side by side so only one can be installed.

Dear Eric,

I've got a question for you.
I've got the Office 2007 Microsoft Tool run and I'm told that two versions
of Outlook are on my laptop. It is quite strange, because I uninstalled
Office 2007 "the whole package" and I deleted all the files related to
Office 2003 and Outlook 2003.
How can I fix that?
I checked in the Add/Remove panel and There is only Office 2007 listed, no
Outlook apart..
Thanks for replying.

Well.. I'm not sure what you mean by "the Office 2007 Microsoft Tool".

Do you mean the Office customization tool?

Also who or what is telling you that you have two versions of outlook on
your laptop?

If you want to be sure that you only have one installation of office
installed:

(These steps will remove ALL office products, however personal Outlook
settings will remain)

1. uninstall all versions of office from add/remove programs
2. delete these registry keys.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office
3. Delete Program files\Office
4. reinstall any office programs you would like installed.

I do mean the Microsoft Office Diagnostics that tells me that two versions
of Outlook are on my laptop, but it is not true, isn't it?
Thanks for replying.
How come that The SP3 for Office 2003 is still installed, I can delete it,
is it normal?

O

E

Eric A.

No that isn't normal.

Office Sp3 should get removed when 2003 gets removed.

So yes.. It does look like you have both products installed for some reason.

So.. you will want to clean things out like so..

1. uninstall all versions of office from add/remove programs
2. Download and install the windows installer cleanup utility.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/290301
3. Run the windows installer cleanup utility. Check to see if any versions
of office show up on the list. If they do choose them and click remove.
4. delete these registry keys.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office
5. Delete Program files\Office
6. reinstall any office programs you would like installed.

Eric,
Thanks for replying.
A few days ago, I uninstalled Office 2003 in a proper way, I deleted all
the files related to Office 2003 in my HD, I got CCcleaner run and I did
reboot.
I installed Office 2007, I downloaded the 11 updates for Office 2007 that
were offered to me, but I noticed that Sp3 was listed in the historic of
installed updates, but not in the installed updates panel, is there a
difference between these two panels ( historic of the installed updates and
the installed updates panel) ?
Besides, I got the Windows Install Clean up and there is no Outlook 2003 or
Office 2003 listed.
Have you any idea? Is it harmful to have on my laptop Sp3 for Office 2003?
Thanks for replying.
Ben

E

Eric A.

No it isnt harmful.

In fact.. If you only had 2003 Office web components Sp3 would apply.

if you are not finding Outlook 2003 installed and Outlook 2007 is working
fine.. then I wouldnt worry about it.

If you are worried about it then follow the steps I provided in the previous
post.

Thanks

Hello!

Thanks for the info.

However, when I install Off2007 by keeping "All Previous Versions", and
without OUTLOOK, half way during the installation, I encountered this message
"Enterprise.WW/EnterWW.cab", asking me to specify the location of this file.

When I point it to the CD drive, the installation process cannot progress
from this point onwards. Why?

Thanks.

Eric,

Thanks for replying to my previous e-mail.
I checked again and I have no 2003 Office web components.
I don't find Outlook 2003 installed on my laptop ( I checked that with the
Windows Install Clean Up and there is no Outlook 2003 listed.
My Outlook 2007 is working fine and as you said that it isn't harmful, I
will let it ride, because I don't want to uninstall again Office 2007 and so
on..
But I can't understand that the Microsoft Office Diagnostics tells me that
two versions of Outlook are on my laptop, it is not true.
How come?
Thanks for replying.

Hi Ben,

Did you manually remove the registry tree branches that Eric mentioned in an earlier post and restart the PC? CCleaner has some
history of removing parts it shouldn't and leaving others and that can create some issues similar to what you're seeing
(partial/incomplete installs). On occassion there will be some cleanup that is pending a restart.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for replying to my request.
I didn't remove the registry tree branches that Eric mentioned in his
earlier post as he told me that it is not harmful for my laptop. Is that
correct?
Moreover, Outlook works fine and I don't want to reinstall Office 2007
again.
But How come that the Microsoft Office Diagnostic told me that 2 versions of
Outlook are on my laptop?
Thanks for replying.

Hi Ben,

Eric mentioned that having SP3 listed wouldn't be harmful if I recall correctly. The diagnostics can be reading the registry as one
method of detecting the product and CCleaner can 'sort of' remove things but not fully (i.e. it can leave things a bit 'odd') so
that pieces may still be found by the diagnostics.

The reinstallation steps that Eric mentioned may help clear up things. and you won't normally lose any data or personal files by
doing so after a restart of the PC, but it never hurts to backup before doing any installation or major change.

Hi Bob,

I give up !!

I followed the instructions given by Eric :

I uninstalled all versions of office from add/remove programs
I downloaded and installed the windows installer cleanup utility.
I ran the windows installer cleanup utility. and I checked to see if any
versions of office show up on the list. None was shown.
I deleted these following registry keys : HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office
I deleted the Program files\Office
I reinstalled Microsoft Office 2007.

The Microsoft Office Diagnostics told me again that 2 versions of Outlook
were on my pc ( which can't be and it is not true) How come?
Besides, The Sp3 didn't get removed. It appears in my historic of installed
updates but not in my installed updates, Does it make any difference?

Thanks for replying.

Hi zhj23,

This is a read error. Please try copying the entire CD into a folder on the
local drive and running setup from there. Do you still get the error?

Thanks

I've been asked by friends for the generic method of "getting legal" with WGA
and Office 03. These are the three variants:

o One guy is using a revoked volume key for Office-kitchen-sink, whatever they
call that. He has the OEM disk for Dell's 03 Standard, and only uses Excel
and Word, so is willing to give up the illegal apps. Minimally invasive
reinstall procedure?

o Another, ditto, except his legal disk is install 2 of his Students/Teachers
03 (all he needs).

o Another, ditto, except his 03 Pro is legal, but belongs to an old employer,
who wants the disk back. He owns nothing, but will buy retail. Minimally
invasive procedure, please? What to purchase to get Word, Excel, Outlook,
Access? Don't need PP.

The above should have had a new title. Very strange. My sent copy shows the
above Subject.

Hello! Eric

Thanks for the reply and help.

As I am eager to try Office 2007, I downloaded the 60-day trial version
after the OEM installation failed. If I install the OEM again, will it
overwrite the trial version?
