Office 2003 and Office Online

Mark

I just installed Office 2003 on my PC which we will be
rolling out across our network in the near future. I
tried to use the help section and I noticed that when it
started searching it said "Searching Online". I am
trying to find out how much of the help menu is online
and how much is not. Having a large number of users
conect to the internet whenever they need office help
could be problematic. Can anyone point me to some info
on this subject, is it possible to turn off the online
integration? I have tried to search the MS website but
have had no luck. Thanks in advance.

Search the help for "Turn Microsoft Office Online featured links on or off
", it'll tell you how to turn this feature on/off as required.
The on-line help is just an updated (and maintained) version of what's
already available.

Hi Mark,

You can the Help search options on the Help task pane under ""Online
Content Settings".

<soapbox>As for the offline content - it's okay but it could be
better. Unfortunately Office Help has seemed to degrade with each
version of Office. Granted I understand Microsoft's "vision" but it
seems as though they forget not everyone 'is connected' 24/7 and some
of us are still stuck using a dial-up. On my computer if Online Help
is enabled it is soooo incredibly slow it's useless to me. Even the
offline pages take forever to display. Good thing I still have Office
97 installed. <g> </soapbox>

In Word, you can use Tools | Options | General | Service Options | Online
content. The bandwidth hit actually is fairly light, and it's getting
better every day. (By next month, it will drop by 50% or more).

There are a number of reasons to leave online help turned on: The help
online is updated in response to user feedback; there will be more help
topics authored to address specific user concerns; we show online training
and other content types not available offline; etc.
