Office 2003 application freezes after clicking the drop down menu

Has any one else had the problem with Office 2003 application freezes after
clicking the drop down menu in the "Open File" dialog box? If so do you
know a fix?

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.
