Office 2003 Basic - Deploy to computer through Group Policy

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem pushing out Basic 2003 to some computer accounts in our
domain. The error relates to the MST file associated with the install:

"Product: Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 -- This version of Microsoft
Office 2003 does not support Office Custom Installation Wizard transforms."

Fairly straight forward answer you would think... Except that I can deploy
the same MSI and MST file to a user account and receive no errors at all. I
can even specify the MFT as a TRANSFORMS= parameter to setup and it works as
expected.

Any thoughts?

Only editions of Office 2003 acquired through a
Volume License agreement or other non-retail
channel allow you to create an administrative
installation point. You cannot run Setup.exe in
administrative mode (/a) with an Office 2003
retail edition.

Hi,

I am neither installing from an administrative installation point (but it
will let me create one, I've been down that road), nor using a retail licence
of Office. I can get it to work just fine from the command line or deploying
to via the user settings - it only wont work when deploying via the computer
settings.

Sorry, but that article contains nothing of relevance to the problem I have
nor the error message incorrectly generated.

Hi Otacon,

Office 2003 Basic Edition is an OEM only one (to be sold with new PCs). The OEM tools from http://microsoft.com/oem may be usable
to deploy it, but deployment with the procedures in the Office 2003 Resource Kit, basically for volume licensed editions, isn't
supported for the Basic Edition. Office Basic Edition copies generally need to be activated as part of the install/first use
process, individually.

It is interesting that it seems to have worked for you in some computers.
