OFFICE 2003 BASIC....MISSING FONTS

AL

I note that many of you are missing fonts for various reasons.....Me too, but
none of the other questions seems to match mine.
I used to use another PC installed with the same programme and the fonts
included say, BAUHAUS, MISTRAL and PAPYRUS among many others.
I have just had a PC custom built (by a MSoft Engineer) specifically for
work. I insisted on Office 2003 Basic specifically as I wanted Outlook and
Word etc.
I checked on the Microsoft sites to see a list of what was included in
BASIC, particularly the Fonts List. All the fonts mentioned are included in
the website list, but for some unknown reason they ain't on my PC.
The PC builder doesn't have an answerand can't get an anwer from Microsoft.
I can't talk to Microsoft because the program is OEM or it will cost me.
Am I missing something here? (Apart from the fonts, that is)

Immaterial I would think (even though it is correctly set).....None of the
'Missing fonts' appear in Control Panel Fonts Folder.....they just ain't on
the PC, but I don't see any option on the genuine disc to be able to install
them.

The printer you are using is material. The Office applications obtain
the font list from the printer driver and if the font isn't support it
will not appear.

But since you don't see these fonts in the Fonts folder then it should
just be a matter of installing them from the Fonts folder on Office
installation CD. To install them you'll need to open the Fonts folder
in your Control Panel and go to File/Install New Font...

Thanks Beth and Bob, but even though the CD is a genuine Office Basic 2003
version, there does not seem to be any facility to establish which is the
Fonts Folder on the disc......There are a number of CAB files so it could be
one of these I guess, but which one????
If only it was as simple as installing them within Control Panel.

What I actually think the problem is, is that even though Microsoft website
show the required list of fonts is on Basic, they are not all included in
reality.

Just out of interest, regarding the printer......what happens then, if a
printer is not a necessary bit of hardware to the overall set-up of my
system, say if every image is sent online and never needs to be printed?

I can't tell you where the 2003 Basic fonts reside, but as to the
Printer, Office will alter the Font selection it uses based on the
capabilities of the default printer you select.

If you really need the fonts then you may be able to download them off
the web.

And to repeat what Bob said, regardless of whether you have a physical
printer you still need a printer driver installed since that's where
the Office applications obtain their font list. If you don't know
which printer driver to install, use an HP 5 or similar driver.

Perhaps, but no one can know everything - even when it comes to
computers. Those who claim they know it all are actually saying they
know very little - it seems like the more you learn the more you
realize what you don't know. ;-)

Like building a PC, I can fumble my way through this task but I'm sure
I'd need to seek advice.

So what you're saying is, the next time my motorcycle breaks down and
I can't figure out what's wrong I can call you? <grin> (just kidding
of course!)
