Office 2003 Basic to Student Teacher Edition

Hi folks,

Great group. Hoping somebody can let me know something: I recently
bought new computer with Office 2003 Basic Edition installed. Wife
recently started taking some college courses and needs Power Point.
Cheapest way to go about that was to purchase the Student Teacher
Edition of office which includes PPoint. Question is: do I need to
"uninstall" the entire "Basic" package and then install the
Student/Teacher?
If so, any "gotcha's" to watch for? I've got all my data files backed
up and I think I'm ready to go. Just wanted to make sure I need to
completely uninstall the Basic package first.

Thanks!!

Uninstall the trial version. I've read posts from many people who didn't.
Especially since you're changing editions.

This isn't the "trial" version of Basic... I had actually "purchased"
it to be enabled thru HP when I bought the computer, so it's currently
fully functional. Does that change anything?

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I'd still uninstall it. Multiple product codes can screw things up.

(Out of curiosity, are you aware that you can't upgrade the STE?)

Thanks JoAnn,
I'll uninstall the Basic package first. Well, not quite sure what
"can't upgrade" means.. does that mean that I won't get any patches etc
from M. Soft for this product? I really couldn't find out exactly what
"can't upgrade" meant. Might have shot myself in the foot eh?

I'd still uninstall it. Multiple product codes can screw things up.

Upgrade means the ability to purchase the next version of Office at a lower
cost. The Student and Teacher Edition is cheaper and you can't use it as a
basis for a newer version. Your OEM version (the one you got from HP) is
also cheaper and limited to that specific system. That's the price you pay
to save money.

Thanks for the explanation... no problem with that.. I just use the
office suite for personal use, and I'm sure the 2003 editions of either
package will serve me well for quite some time.
Appreciate all the help!
