Office 2003 Beta 2 Update Error

M

muruegsan

Hi,
I've already
downloaded the Beta 2 Technical Refresh and have problem
in installing this Technical Refresh. I've summarised my
problem as below. Help, please!.

I used to update my Beta 2 of Office 2003 from microsoft
download page. [For some reasons, I unstalled and
installed office 2003 Beta 2]. When I scan for updates,
the message says " Your system do not require any
updates".

So, I decided to use the file that I downloaded earlier
(opsetup.exe). [you can download it from here -->
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
displaylang=en&familyid=37f9d6b2-8354-4dda-b86b-
cf9ce8616d98 or
http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/6/6/66696dc4-
ca23-4e6e-8a3e-32c3d17c8e11/opsetup.exe ]

However, when I Installed, the following
message appears:
"Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low
memory [low disk space for swapping file] or corrupted
cabinet file".

I think that it is not due to corrupted cabinet file as
I've
earlier installed using the same opsetup.exe. It could be
due to the other possibility that "low memory"?. Not sure!

Any advise to overcome this? please help. Thanks in
advance.

Thanks, Milly. I'm using Microsoft Windows XP
Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 1.

FYI, I earlier installed opsetup.exe in my PC. At that
time also, I faced the same prob. However, after few
trials, I managed to install it. But this time, I've been
trying for many times already. The very same error
message appears every time.

Thanks for your help.

Dear Milly,

I hope this following information might be helpful.

The failed setup did not make any log files.

I used winzip 9.0 (Beta) to unzip the opsetup.exe, which
I downloaed earlier. I managed to unzip the following 2
files.

1.PMSB-4920-07a-5329-07-o11pro-ENG.msp

2.ohotfix.ini

However, I could not unzip the following files:
1. ohotfix.exe
2. ohotfixr.dll
3. PMSB-5329-07-5329-07a-o11pro-ENG.msp

The following error message appears when I tried to
extract this file.

"Extracting to "C:\Documents and Settings\murugesanR\My
Documents\opsetup\"
Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no
Warning: skipping "" because it is located on a device
type that is unknown to Windows.

If you feel that this is incorrect, please contact
WinZip's technical support ([email protected]),
specifying the filename and device. Our support staff
will use this information to provide you with a method
for bypassing this condition.
Error extracting
Extracting PMSB-5329-07-5329-07a-o11pro-ENG.msp

Given this, I think that cabinet file is corrupt.

||||| Thanks, Milly. I'm using Microsoft Windows XP
||||| Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 1.
|||||
||||| FYI, I earlier installed opsetup.exe in my PC. At that
||||| time also, I faced the same prob. However, after few
||||| trials, I managed to install it. But this time, I've been
||||| trying for many times already. The very same error
||||| message appears every time.

||||||
||||||| Hi,
||||||| I've already
||||||| downloaded the Beta 2 Technical Refresh and have problem
||||||| in installing this Technical Refresh. I've summarised my
||||||| problem as below. Help, please!.
|||||||
||||||| I used to update my Beta 2 of Office 2003 from microsoft
||||||| download page. [For some reasons, I unstalled and
||||||| installed office 2003 Beta 2]. When I scan for updates,
||||||| the message says " Your system do not require any
||||||| updates".
|||||||
||||||| So, I decided to use the file that I downloaded earlier
||||||| (opsetup.exe). [you can download it from here -->
||||||| http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
||||||| displaylang=en&familyid=37f9d6b2-8354-4dda-b86b-
||||||| cf9ce8616d98 or

||||||| ca23-4e6e-8a3e-32c3d17c8e11/opsetup.exe ]
|||||||
||||||| However, when I Installed, the following
||||||| message appears:
||||||| "Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low
||||||| memory [low disk space for swapping file] or corrupted
||||||| cabinet file".
|||||||
||||||| I think that it is not due to corrupted cabinet file as
||||||| I've
||||||| earlier installed using the same opsetup.exe. It could be
||||||| due to the other possibility that "low memory"?. Not sure!
|||||||
||||||| Any advise to overcome this? please help. Thanks in
||||||| advance.

Hi Murugesan,

Hmm, yes that does sound like it could be a corrupt
download. From the properties of OpSetup.exe
(right click on the file in Windows Explorer) I
show 'Size: 134 MB (141,342,096 bytes)" and
Winzip 9 unzipped the contents (around 146mb)
without a problem.

If you have the same file size then you may
want to try running a disk utility to check
the integrity of the disk drive and file structure.

FWIW, the refresh updates can use up to 3 times
their size, on your Windows drive partition, when
running (temp files/work area), which could also
be a problem.

On the original issue of the Officeupdate site
checking for updates, it no longer looks at
Office System 2003 Beta 2, as those updates
are not available through the scanner, only manually
from http://microsoft.com/downloads.

Dear Milly,

I hope this following information might be helpful.

The failed setup did not make any log files.

I used winzip 9.0 (Beta) to unzip the opsetup.exe, which
I downloaed earlier. I managed to unzip the following 2
files.

1.PMSB-4920-07a-5329-07-o11pro-ENG.msp

2.ohotfix.ini

However, I could not unzip the following files:
1. ohotfix.exe
2. ohotfixr.dll
3. PMSB-5329-07-5329-07a-o11pro-ENG.msp

The following error message appears when I tried to
extract this file.

"Extracting to "C:\Documents and Settings\murugesanR\My
Documents\opsetup\"
Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no
Warning: skipping "" because it is located on a device
type that is unknown to Windows.

If you feel that this is incorrect, please contact
WinZip's technical support ([email protected]),
specifying the filename and device. Our support staff
will use this information to provide you with a method
for bypassing this condition.
Error extracting
Extracting PMSB-5329-07-5329-07a-o11pro-ENG.msp
CAB file opsetup.exe is corrupt"

Given this, I think that cabinet file is corrupt. >>
