Hi. I have a client using Outlook 2003 on Windows Server 2003 Terminal
Services. They have a pretty basic POP3 hosted (Network Solutions) mail
setup. The problem is they have many overseas vendors and whenever they
receive a message with an attachment in Chinese it hangs the mail download
process. All of the messages that were downloaded stay in the inbox if they
cancel (which is all they can do) and when they try to download again those
same messages come down again and the download hangs again so they end up
with multiple copies of the same message. The only solution is to log into
webmail and find / delete the offending message or start Outlook in Safe mode
- then the download is able to complete, but there is still the chore of
deleting all of the duplicate messages.
I get that the server session never completes so the messages are never
marked for deletion from the server and that is why I get the duplicate
messages, but what is causing the download to hang? I'm not sure how to go
about adding the level of international support I seemingly need. The client
does not need to compose messages in Chinese - they just need Outlook to be
able to handle it when they receive one, and the Chinese characters are
present in the messages when they finally arrive. From what I have read
Outlook 2003 should be inheriting its IME from Server 2003, but I have found
a download titled "Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Multilingual User
Interface Pack" which is odd because it "provides the latest updates to
Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack" but I cannot find a download
for the Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack itself.
If anyone could provide any insight into either the problem itself or
the correct method for adding international support to Outlook 2003 I would
appreciate it - finding relevant documentation is proving to be a challenge.
Thanks in advance for your input.
