Office 2003 - Custom Maintenance Wizard - Change Company Name

J

Jason

Hello,

I created a CMW file to change the name of the company in Office 2003.
I installed the CMW on a virtual PC with Office 2003 and it works
correctly if I never open any Office application prior to installing
after I log in. If I open Word and close it and then apply the CMW
file it doesn't work correctly.

In the production environment I can not get the CMW file to work at
all. When I go to File-->Properties it shows the company name with a
bunch of squares and the Company Signature is still the old company.

I have even tried uninstalling Office 2003 and reinstalling with the
new company name in an MST file and it still keeps the old name. When
I RIS a new workstation with the same MST file it works correctly.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi Jason,

The CMW files work only when Office is deployed / maintained from an Office Admin Point using an Enterprise/Volume license. You can
change the company name with a registry change.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821550/en-us?FR=1
You may also need to update existing templates used in the company to include a different name.

An MST file can only be used for a new product installation for Office 2003.

Bob,

Thank you for the quick response! I would like to use the CMW method
because I need to change about 500 workstations. The big problem is
that I when a user starts typing the company name, in Word, such as:
SomeCompany, it wants to complete it as SomeCopmany, Inc. I would like
to remove the AutoText entry from everyone's Word application. I
thought the best way to do this would be to change the Company
Signature.

I am using a Office Admin Point and Enterprise/Volume licensing.

Like you said, the MST file for new installations works perfectly. I
just can not change existing installs.
