Office 2003 Deployment - Customizing Profiles (ops or prf?)

J

jt

After installing Office 2003 with a custom mst file, I have to log on
as the user of the machine and make the following changes to his/her
profile:

Outlook - Put preview pane on bottom, make "folder list" the default
view, remove navigation pane icons. The goal is to make it look like
what the users are used to with Office XP

Word - Turn off the the Reading Layout View

This has to be done for everyone who logs on to each machine.

How can I make the profiles that I want without having to make
customizations everytime?

Do I edit the prf file? The custom installation wizard doesn't include
the changes that I want to make.

What about an ops file? Can I create an ops (Profile Wizard) file on a
machine that has the exact profile that I want and then include that
same ops file in each individual install?

Thanks in Advance

The .ops file would capture the Word reading layout setting. There is no
method for deploying a view change in Outlook such as the one you describe.

Hi Sue, thanks for responding. Can I use the same ops file for
deployment reasons? I'd like to just create the file on a clean machine
and then export it for use. My only concern is if the ops file copies
machine specific info that shouldn't be on other pc's

I don't see why not. You can use the OPS File Viewer to see what's being
copied. Or you can do a little homework and figure out exactly what registry
entry is being set and deploy that instead.
