Office 2003 distribution (MST)

S

Steffany

I would like to make 3 different MST files for my MS
Office 2003 installation.
I have made one basic mst, including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Office Shared Features and Office Tools.
The second one including Outlook.
The third one including Access, with VB.

When I install the basic installation, everything seems to
be fine..
When I then try to distribute the second (outlook) on the
same computer, the installation quits, Outlook is not
installed..
How can I do this, any tips? Do I have to change one of
the setup properties on the last page of the MST creation,
using the Custom Installation Wizard?

Thanx!

Hi Steffany,

The MST file contains the equivalent of installing
Office on a computer the first time and can only
be used to do an initial installation.

After initial installation
to change Office settings you would use Add/Remove Programs
in the Windows Control Panel and choose Microsoft Office.

When using the tools in the Office Resource Kit the equivalent
to the 'after intallation' changes would be a .CMW file from
the Custom Maintenance Wizard rather than the CIW.

Keep in mind that if you're using the MST on an Office
Professional Edition, you're still using a Professional
Edition license even if you install only one app.

Hi Bob!
Thanx, this helped a lot!
Since this worked fine, I have one more question..

As I wrote I have one administrative installation point, I
have made one MST file customizing Word, Excel and
PowerPoint (Basic installation). I have made a .CMW file
for distribution of Outlook and a .CMW file for
distribution of Access. The installation of Outlook and
Access after the basic installation works fine if I
install it to the same PC.

What if I would like to have only Outlook on one computer,
and maybe a couple weeks after installing Outlook I would
like to install the rest of Office.. Do I have to make a
new administrative installation point, make a MST file
for distribution of Outlook and make a CMW for the basic
installation? How would you do this? Could you some how
use the same administrative installation point? Any tips
on how to set this up?
About licenses - I have the Pro license.. :)

Thanx!

Hi Steffany,

You'll need one Office Admin point for each Edition
of Office you're using (Professional, Standard,
Small Business Edition). As you have all Professional
licenses you should need only one Office Admin Point,
but you can have multiple MSTs and CMWs setup to use for
any given Admin Point. These two resources may be of help:
Office 2003 Resource Kit (http://microsoft.com/office/ork )
Deployment Training session:
