I have a user on a machine running XP professional (UK). He has been using a
Danish version of Office 2003 along with Nokia PC Suite software to
syncronize his calendar and contacts between a Nokia 6600i and Outlook.
About 3 or 4 weeks ago PC Suite stops sync'ing Calendar elements while
allowing contacts, to be sync'ed. He reports that all other functions of PC
Sync seems to work fine (SMS editor, backups functionality, etc.)
I urge him to contact Nokia's support for possible updates to this problem,
but he is already running the latest version of PC Suite, and Nokia push the
blame on Microsoft (citing "a rushed fix a few weeks ago"), beyond that, the
supporter brushes my user aside by making him do a 4 hour Error Check on his
harddrive (I REALLY hate moron supporters that wont admit they have reached
their limits, and just waste time instead...)
Anyway. I get the machine from the user and start digging in...
I manage to locate various references to a problem with outlook promting
users "a program is trying to read e-mail adresses..." but only a few with
the same problem as my user...
I try uninstalling Office and PC Suite. Using a "cleaning tool" from Nokia's
website I clear all traces of PC Suite, and do a manual search in the
registry and filesystem for any leftovers (which I backup before deleting
them).
Having re-installed Office, rebooted, applied latest office SP, rebooted and
installed the latest PC Sync the problem persists... I try not applying the
SP to Office... same result.
I figure that PC Suite should trigger the Outlook "a program is trying to
gain access..." promt, but this does not happen, and I am left to ponder why?
More importantly I am stuck at the conclusion that Office 2003 DK and Nokia
PC Suite 6.70.22 DK are incompatible, despite Nokia's assurances that "no
other users in the whole world has problems..."
I'd like to solve this problem without having to do a complete re-install of
the users system if at all possible, and any help is appreciated, thanks in
advance.
