Office 2003 Error: Cannot comma separate multiple parameters

Hi

I hope someone can help me with this one, because it makes office useless
for me. For some reason I cannot call any functions that require more than
one parameter (happens in Excel and Access), because office doesn't like the
comma between the parameters. Even though a comma is what you must use
between parameters.

The tooltip also comes up with a space between parameters instead of a comma.

The error message is:

Microsoft Office Excel found an error in the formula you entered.

An example is using the left worksheet function
=left(a1,2)

I am on the the latest service packs for windows, office, visual studio, etc.

Thanks

PS. Can't believe Microsoft wants me to pay them $35 to get them to fix
their own bugs.
