Office 2003 Hangs during installation

Had to reformat hard drive. Installed Windows XP Pro then Norton AV and then
attempted Office 2003 Pro. It copied 6-8 files and then a dialog box popped
up to tell me that it was preparing installation wizard and that's as far as
it goes. I have to use the task manager to close it. The Cancel button at
the bottom doesn't respond. I have 2 CD drives and tried from both - just
autorun set-up. Then tried Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs. Went to
Windows Explorer and Opened folder on CD and double-clicked Setup.exe. I get
same result whichever way I attempt to install.
What is happeneing and what can I do? Please Help

You shouldn't have installed Norton. That's your problem as it is
interfering with the Office install. Use Avast for an AV and Comodo for
a firewall, both free, and install them AFTER you install all your
programs. Keep the Windows firewall enabled until then.

Why did you have to format the hd?
And after installing Winxp did you obtain the drivers for your hw/mobo and
NOT from winupdate.
Did you then run winupdate for critaical updates, before installing anything
else?

Also try uninstalling whatever version of Norton you are using, use their
tool available on Norton site to complately remove, reboot your PC. Clear
all temp files, then reboot to try the installation again - ensure cd is
clean.
If that fails see if you can copy the cd to a temp location on the HD & try
from that location.

what is mobo?
Does it matter why the format?
What does Norton have to do with anything? It was already on the PC when we
originally got Office 2003 and I was able to install it then.
Don't all the newer sw cd's come with a stop if you try to copy the cd?

Norton: you were lucky the first time.

You can copy Office 2003, no problem.

Mobo = motherboard.
Maybe you formated because of some perceived problem, which could be
hardware related
No; you can copy the cd to hd or to another cd.
