Office 2003 install now C drive Error

After installing Office 2003 on my laptop I now cannot
double click on the C drive. It gives me the error
"please go to the control panel to install and configure
system components" and the Icon is no longer a Drive Icon
but an unknown windows file icon. This has happened to 2
PC's. I tried to uninstall and reinstall but no luck
Anybody with any ideas??

I don't have a solution. But I can add that a similar thing happened to
me after installing office 2000. I didn't get the c drive icon problem
but my icons for office programs are nuts up for any users other than
the admin account.
