When I open a doc. the Office program makes an faded ikon image with a curly
que in front.When I open this ikon, it contains a Word doc. with no meaning
sentences. WHAT TO DO? Many thanks. Ned

That is the temporary file created while editing a Word document. That
is normal, don't worry about it, and leave it alone. It will "go away"
when you close the working document.

Thanks to Bob 1. Yes, these are temporary files made while editing a doc;
unfortunately they don't disaappear when I close the doc. They stay in MY
DOCs folder!

Perhaps something is interfering with the deletion? Does the temporary
file go away when you edit a document in some other directory than "My
Documents"? Have you played with any security settings in the file
system? Can you delete the files manually? Does Word pop up any error
messages?

Again, thanks Bob I. Yes I can delete them manually...now there are at least a hundred there and I wanted a systemic solution. No Ihaven't changed any security settings nor do I get an error message from Office or Word.
Maybe something else will help.

Best.
