Office 2003 menu problem

V

Vaughn

I have a user with Word 2003 that is trying to insert a filename in the
header, and uses this method from the menu bar:

Insert > Autotext > Header/Footer > Filename

However, those menu options are not available to her. She gets this far:

Insert > Autotext...and that's it. Header/Footer is not available to her. I
have found a workaround by doing Insert > Field > Filename, but this isn't
ideal, and I'd like to find a fix for the issue. I thought it might be the
normal.dot template, but having renamed it and forced it to be recreated,
didn't solve it. Any ideas?

This may be a dumb question but does she have the full menu dropdown list
expanded? That's just about the point where Word shortens the list unless
you click on the arrows.

Yes, the dropdown list is fully expanded - there's only 3 or 4 things in the
list, and no "arrows" to expand the list any further. Any other ideas?

Did you try going into View - Toolbars - Customise and see if you can reset
the menus?

Yes, I tried that - it doesn't provide the granularity to add items at that
level.

Have you tried to repair Word?

JoAnn,

Thanks for your help - I haven't tried the detect and repair yet...however,
I have just discovered that she is accessing Word through a Citrix farm, and
not using the application as it is installed on her desktop! Thus, my efforts
to fix this have been for naught...I'm getting in touch with the Citrix farm
operators to see if deleting normal.dot in her profile on the farm fixes it.

Sorry for wasting your time - my apologies.

Not a problem. Good luck finding out what's going on.
