Office 2003 & Office 2007-Seamless Integration MS Word & Spreadshe

HELP! I have been running a Dell Desktop with XP and Office 2003 with no
problems for years. I decided to "upgrade" my computing life with an HP
Pavillion notebook running Vista and Office 2007. I downloaded the
Compatibility Pack on both platforms (XP and Vista) and believe I have both
platforms up to date with updates. But when I try to work as I had
hoped--copying my folder of Word docs and spreadsheets from Office 2003 to my
HP Pocket Media Drive and then plugging that into my notebook, all of the
documents come up as "read only" even though their file attributes are not
read only. The "read only" message is right next to the "compatibility mode"
message. So, if I want to make revisions to these files I have to always
save as a copy of. Even if I try to save as 97-2003 under Office 2007, that
doesn't avoid the problem of "read only". When I take the HP Pocket Media
drive out of the laptop and back to the desktop, all the files open normally
for revision. I need help to a) confirm that this read only issue is not
what is supposed to occur as you move Office 2003 files to Office 2007 for
revision. b) explain what is causing the "read only" message to occur and
how to fix. Is it they way I am copying the files? Is it Office 2007? Is
it the HP Pocket Media drive?

You need to copy the document from the media drive to the hard drive
of the computer. Then you can work with the document and make revisions.

Why would I need to do that since I don't have to do that when I am working
with Windows XP/Office 2003 and the HP Pocket Media Drive.

If you create a doc on the HP PC & save it to your external, is it available
for editing on the HP?
