Office 2003 on Terminal Server

Nathan

I am planning to install Office 2003 on Win2K Terminal
Server. In a test enviroment when I do this, I get the
following warning. "Some default settings in Office 2000
setup do not work properly on a Windows Terminal Server.
To install Office on Terminal Server, you must use the
instructions and tools available in your Office 2000
resource kit." My question is, why is it referencing
Office 2000 when I am installing 03, and is this a
concern with 03, The articles I have read say that Office
2003 is intelligent enough to reconize Terminal Server.
Can anyone offer any suggestions, or point me to more
reference material. Thank you

Hi Nathan,

Hmmm. If you're using an Office 2000 CD that message would appear as that edition had special installation methods required for a
Terminal Server. Office 2003 does not require a special method. Is Office 2000 on the TS or on the client PC you're using to
install from?

Currently Office 2000 was on the terminal server, I was
planning to upgrade to 2003. I am sorry, I left that out
of the initial post. Should I run an uninstall on 2000
before installing 2003? Thanks for you help

Hi Nathan,

If Office 2000 has apps in it (from the main CD or CD #2) that the Office 2003 edition does not then Office 2003 will generally
leave those behind and the installer will try to work with both copies, with 2000 needing a specific transform and install
procedure. In this case, it may be cleaner to pull Office 2000 (both CDs) out first and then clean install Office 2003 to the
Terminal Server.
