Office 2003 - OSE Error 25090

I have started getting the following error when
attempting to apply updates or perform almost any task on
Office 2003.

Office Source Engine error: Error 25090. Office Setup
encountered a problem with the Office Source Engine,
system error: -2147024703.

I have looked at the refered to Setup.chm file and it
suggest doing a detect and repair action (which quickly
gets the same error and does not complete) or to check to
see if the OSE service is started. When I look, the
service is in fact set to manual and not running however
trying to do a start on the service I get

Could not start the Office Source Engine on Local
Computer. Error 193: 0xc1

I have uninstalled and then reinstall Office 2003 but the
error persists.

Anyone with any pointers or help you can provide on
this... mostly stuck and unable to use Office 2003 at the
moment.

Thanks
Neil
This is not particularly helpful and the KB has nothing
that applies. Where can I go?

I'm trying to upgrade my version of Office 2000 to Office Pro
Enterprise Edition 2003 (Disc 2434.1 November 2003) but am
experiencing identical problems to those described by Neil.

I checked to ensure that the ose.exe file existed and found it was set
to Manual but was unable to start it as a service.

I've searched the MS sites and have scoured the various forums to no
avail. The information provided my MS does not help, or doesn't
apply, so I'm up the proverbial without a paddle. Fortunately my
existing office applications still function!

The only possible difference with Neil's problem is that I was
initially able to upgrade Outlook to Outlook 2003 but when I decided a
few days later to upgrade the remainder of the Office suite the
infamous "Office Source Engine error: Error 25090. Office Setup
encountered a problem with the Office Source Engine, system error:
-2147024703" occured.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has a workaround to this problem
'cause it's sure got me stumped.

Regards,

Paul R.
