I am running Office 2003 Pro on a Windows XP Pro SP1
system. When I attempted to install Office 2003 Service
Pack 1, I got a message that "this patch package cannot be
opened." I have also received this message in the past,
when I have attempted to use the original installation
disc to either repair the installation or uninstall Office
2003 (to start over). I cannot find anything about "patch
package" in the KB.
I think that the problem started when I foolishly selected
the option to delete the Office setup files during a disc
cleanup. I have a 10-license pack and have used the same
Office installation disc on an XP Home SP1 system without
any problem. I have not deleted the Office setup files
from that system.
Fortunately I have tape backups going back several months.
Are there any files or folders that I should attempt to
restore from my oldest backup? Thanks in advance for your
help.
