Office 2003 PowerPoint template deployment

Brad Friedrich

Hi everyone,

I have 2 powerpoint templates to roll out to 350+ machines running XP SP2
and Office2003 std. I am using Altiris Deployment solution.

I have created a file copy job to run to these machines. I am copying 2 x
~350kb templates from our server to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\Presentation Designs

When I start PowerPoint after running this job, they do not show up in the
General, Design Templates, or Presentations tabs. They appear to be in the
correct location. I can get them to appear only after I have drilled down
into the directory and opened them manually.

My questions are:
If I have copied the files to the correct location (I am assuming) why am I
not able to view these templates when I attempt to create a new presentation?

How do I make the templates visible for user access, without manually
opening the templates on each machine?

I appreciate any and all feedback, and yes I have posted on the Altiris
forums as well.

Regards,

Brad

Brad,

There's some really good articles on the location to store templates for ppt
2003 at

http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cach...eman.com+template+location&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1

That's a google cache as the real website appears to be down at the moment.

also this one

Hi TAJ,

I found the issue after reading through Sonia's website.

We have redirected all of our users 'My Documents" folders to a shared
network drive. This is where we also store the 'Normal.dot' template. This is
a setting which is configured through MSWord. I placed a folder with 2
templates into the same folder and they appeared in PowerPoint.

Truly illogical.

Many thanks,

Brad
