Office 2003 Problem

Whenever I start MS Office 2003 Word or Excel, I get a block with MS
Installer "Preparing to Install." I can cancel twice, and after a few
seconds Word or Excel start up fine. If I don't cancel, the installer
goes briefly into an install mode, then fairly quickly goes to the
opening screen. How can I stop these Windows Installer windows from
delaying every startup?
