Office 2003 Professional~ "Insert a disk in Drive E:."

H

HaroldSJS

Below is what I posted earlier. I deleted Normal.dot and nothing happened. I
went to, Tools, Options and then the Files Location Tab and changed the
location back to the location of where I have changed it from. "C:\Documents
and Settings\owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates" and the message "The
global template, Normal. dot is already open as an add in
| program" went away.

Now I am left with; "Insert a disk in Drive E:." Any ideas? I am looking in
my settings as to why and what Outlook and Word are looking to my CD RW drive
for? It is not asking for the Office 2003 setup disk, just any disk.

Again, I ask: How I fix this problem and make it go away? Anyone have an idea?

After furious head scratching, HaroldSJS asked:

| When I open any Office 2003 professional Application, mostly Outlook
| & Word, I get the following message;
|
| "The global template, Normal. dot is already open as an add in
| program"
|
| I click OK (as if I have a choice) and then I receive another message
| box;
|
| "Insert a disk in Drive E:."
|
| I insert my Office 2003 Professional installation CD into the drive
| and I get;
|
| "The drive or network connection to shortcut, 06-223-02,rtf.lnk
| refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly
| inserted or the network link is available and then try again."
|
| Drive E: is my CD/RW drive, 06-223-02,rtf is a file that is on my
| other
| hard drive and that I did not open after I installed the new hard
| drive and reinstalled Office 2003. 06-223-02,rtf is a document that I
| have on another physical drive on my machine. I recently had to
| reinstall my application software (including Office 2003) onto a new
| hard drive, due to my previous drive malfunctioning and failing.
|
| How I fix this problem and make it go away?

HaroldSJS

I deleted the file. But i also neglected to post that when I originally set
up Office 2003, I changed the default file locations. I returned the file
locations for "templates" back to the original location. That left me with
the; "Insert a disk in Drive E:." problem. This is not a functional problem,
but a "thorn in the shoe" problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Uninstall Office, reinstall in default location.

Thanks Earle!

But common sense tells me, that your "fix" is like perfroming major surgery
to remove a splinter. Anyone else have a real solution from their knowledge,
from their experience, not from a need to say something, anything?

Earle, Yes I would be done by now. But as a general rule of thumb, we don't
perform major surgeries when we don't know what the cause of the illness is.
Uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2003, is a very invasive procedure. I
would like to see if we can heal the problem or minimally go in
laproscopically, before we try for an organ transplant.
