office 2003 professional on a new Dell E1505

LLJ45

Hi,
HELP!
I recently purchased a certified copy of office 2003 professional on a CD.
When I insert the CD, the autorun starts and asks for the product key on
the back of the CD case. I enter the product key without spaces or extra
characters and click OK or something.
Next, the CD drive spins and clicks and clicks and clicks . . .
The installation does NOT continue.
Finally, I reinstalled the OS which is Windows XP SP2. Then, finally, it
does give the following error message information:
F:\autorun.vbs
code: 800700C1
line 12 or such
wshShell.exec
setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application .
Due to some testing, my guess is that this install problem is somehow
specific to this new Dell E1505 laptop. I thought reinstalling the OS would
help! NOT!
I did some research online to find that it might be connected to a dll
named quartz in the system32 folder. Is this true?

Hi, Joann
No, I did not call Dell.
Honestly, I have another Dell laptop, an old 7500, which the CD installs
perfectly normally Office 2003. So, I truly believe that the problem is
Windows XP / Microsoft related.
Doesn't the error information help you to determine the problem?
Also, other vendors software both large and small installs perfectly
normally from a CD?
Thanks, LLJ45 :)

Hi,
So, other software installs perfectly with no problems from a CD.
This step eliminates the CD drive in the new Dell E1505 laptop.
Very recently, the CD in question installed fine from another Dell laptop.
This step eliminates the Office 2003 CD, clicking or no clicking in the E1505.
Reinstalled Window XP including a format of the hard drive.
This eliminates a mulitude of things like stray registry entries, etc.
I do believe that the E1505 laptop is loaded with WM Player version 10.
So, what does that tell us. I did some research online where I read about
the quartz.dll solution which I tried without downloading a new quartz and
not rebooting or simply reaming the existing quartz.dll to quartz.old. There
was no change?
PLEASE HELP!!!
If this call was made to Microsoft telephone support, I would be escalated
to level 2 by now ! ! !

wshShell.exec
setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application .
Due to some testing, my guess is that this install problem is somehow
specific to this new Dell E1505 laptop. I thought reinstalling the OS
would
help! NOT!
I did some research online to find that it might be connected to a dll
named quartz in the system32 folder. Is this true?
