Last month my system(s) failed to install the Outlook Junk email updates.
This month none on the office updates will install on any of my computers.

Tried repair & reinstall on three computers; all installations or repairs
quit with fatal error.

Took one workstation and uninstalled office and then reinstalled it. Went to
office update site. Office service pack 1 failed to install along with
several other updates.

Are any error codes given? Are you running Office Update on an administrator
account? If you're not you should be. If that does not work select Start ·
Run, then type "%windir%/Downloaded Program Files" and press enter.
Right-click "Office Update Installation Engine" and select "Remove". Now try
running Office Update again, you should be prompted to install the new
ActiveX control.

I install Windows systems for a living, so yes I ran the updates as an
administrator and yes I tried the alternate install methods including
downloading the patches separately as standalone exe files (and about 10
other scenarios).

What I'm waiting for now is a Microsoft engineer to contact me to go over
the update log files.

Thanks Anyway.

Do you by any chance know where the Office Update log files are located?

The log files are typically in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<active user>\Local Settings\Temp\OfficeUpdate

I have managed to repair one computer. As it is late, I will post the repair
process tomorrow

Problem Symptoms:

Office Update failed in both small and large file modes.
Standalone updates also failed.
Add or Remove Features under Add or Remove Programs failed with errors.
Reinstall or Repair options under Add or Remove Programs failed with errors.
Uninstallting Office 2003 Pro and then reinstalling results in failed office
updates.

Fix:
Uninstalled Office 2003 Pro, Visio, InfoPath, OneNote and FrontPage (MS
Project Std. Ed. was unaffected) and then ran registry cleaner on system.
Reinstalled the above software and updated the systems via Office Update.

Without running the registry cleaner Office Update would always fail after
reinstalling Office programs.

I had to make this repair on three computers; a workstation, a laptop and a
Tablet PC.
