Cindy -confused with Office 03

I recently purchased several software applications for my laptop (xp pro)
and installed them one at a time. Panda Titanium anti virus was installed
after I downloaded the SP2 because I kept having problems with Norton and
Windows working without errors. Prior to installing Office 2003, I installed
graphics programs such as Macromedia Studio, Adobe CS, Corel 12...Everything
was fine for several days until I installed Office 2003.

I had a previous copy of office xp and when i installed office 2003, i chose
the upgrade instead of a full install like it suggested. Now I can't access
Excel, Word or any Office applications' files. It lets me open the
applications but won't let me open files that I created in last weeks lessons.

I bought the academic version and am a college student. I use the Excel for
stastics class and Word I use for everything imaginable.

When I first downloaded 2003, it had me to to download updates. I did this
and downloaded SP1 for Office. I am getting constant error messages that it's
my anti virus software not allowing the documents to open.

I disabled the firewall (Windows) and the av software (panda) and it still
gave the same messages. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to get rid
of the SP1 in case that was it...still happens.

I've now totally uninstalled my panda antivirus and turned off the firewall
as well. I still get error messages, so it obviously has nothing to do with
antivirus software.

The software has not worked in the 2-3 days I've had it installed.

It happens constantly. It will not open an existing file at all. XP was
working fine. No problems. Now I'm dead in the water here with 2003. : (

I've gone through the add/remove apps and clicked repair *numerous* times.
I've manually uninstalled and reinstalled. I've tried getting rid of cookies,
rebooting, things that don't even seem logical at this point... nothing is
working.

Thanks.

Hi, Cindy. It's possible that the Office Plugin from Norton Antivirus is
still registered in Windows, even if you uninstalled Norton. Search for the
OFFICEAV.DLL file on your system (include hidden and system files/folders).
If you find it, note the directory path where it is located. Close all open
applications. From Windows, click on Start | Run. In the Open dialog box,
type the command (including quotes):

Regsvr32 -U "C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll"

Replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file. Click on
OK. You only have to run this command once (not every time you restart your
computer). You should get the message: "DllUnregisterServer in
C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll succeeded." See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs with
the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more details.
