Hi John,
This can happen if you're using TweakUI or another
Windows setting and registry app.
In TweakUI see if turning on the Explorer settings for
- Allow Recent Document on Start
- Maintain Document History (try just the first setting first)
There may also be a security/firewall product where
this happens as well as a policy (if you're in a
corporate setting) that an Administrator may have set.
In some cases doing a Repair of Office will fix it
if the TweakUI settings don't.
