Office 2003 "save my settings" => Office 2007

Donald Campbell

Just installed Office 2007 on a Windows XP Pro machine.

Trying to restore the settings saved by the Office 2003 "save my setting
wizard".

Office 2007 does not appear to have this well established method of
transferring the settings!

Anyone know any different? or do I have to type in a dozen accounts
settings and a large number of rules?

Correct, Office 2007 doesn't have this program anymore. The
functionality was given completely to Windows.
You can use the Windows Vista Easy Transfer Wizard or the User State
Migration Tool 3.0

But it won't work well. For the most part, all of the automated transfer
utilities are completely useless with Outlook in any version. Migrating
Outlook installations remains a hopelessly messy and difficult task.

Thanks for the feedback.

Was not planning to install Vista on this particular machine.

Just tried USMT but it failed after about an hour of scanning/saving!
I'll have another go tomorrow.

Why does M/S keep messing about with the useful bits of their apps?
