I'm trying to tell everyone here to hold off on this update. Lots of people
are having problems with this Office SP2 update. MS is now offering a CD
with this update, but it's only worthwhile getting the CD IF Miscrosoft has
fixed the problems that the download has.

Site tight and keep your eye on this site and try www.virtualdr.com. to see
if MS fixes this update. The people at virtualdr. are great, patient, and
very knowledgeable as well as some of the good folks here seem to be.

Peter,
Me again - I tried that too and I am getting an "office Source Engine Error
25090"

Thanks,
Volker

Peter,
your points 1-4 did finally work. After rebooting, with MSCONFIG set normal,
it installed just fine.

Thnx,
Volker

I am glad it worked for you. When you have the Error 1603 I find that these step are the ones that work. I experimented with all fixes that are posted and that I knew of and with this error 1603 this seems to work just fine.
Took me a lot of different routes until I came up with this one finally

Do you know how many Office 03 SP2 updates end up with Error 1603? Because I
am about to update a bunch of them and this happened on my first try - my own
system.

I have no idea.I seen many different issues with the SP2 install in this and other groups aside from 1603. I only know the fix for ID 1603 since it is the only one that I got from 2 of my clients.
You should read through the posts in this and other Office groups for different issues aside from ID 1603 for suggested fixes

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office 2003 cd running , will doing
the update
