Office 2003 Shortcut Bar Outlook Buttons

Warren

Hi, I know that MS has discontinued the Shortcut Bar in Office 2003. I have
decided to go with the add a toolbar in the taskbar work around option. But
I really miss how the shortcut bar had icons to create a new message, note,
task, contact etc. without opening up outlook. Is there a way to create
shortcuts in a taskbar that will allow me to open up a new note or task or
appointment without having Outlook open? Thanks

Use the Quick Launch bar instead. You can add any shortcuts you want. If you
need to add the QL bar, right click on taskbar, go to Toolbars and check it.

Ok, but how can I make a shortcut for a new note, task, or appointment in
Outlook without having outlook open? That is my primary question.

Hey, I don't know how I did it but I retained the Office 2000 Shortcut Bar.
As I recall, I had moved it from its normal position within the 2000 menu so
when I upgraded to 2003, it wasn't overwritten. But I also think maybe I
retained it because I upgraded from Office 2000 Premium which left me with
FrontPage 2000 on its own in addition to the Office 2003 Pro.

I think you can use your previous version disks, and, being careful to
select CUSTOM INSTALLATION, you can select to install the MICROSOFT OFFICE
SHORTCUT BAR from the disk. When I left click on the SB MS Icon, the "ABOUT
Microsoft" shows it is a stand-alone 2000 program. So I would think one
could install it from your 2000 disks by going the custom install route and
installing it as its own program separate from any of the 2003 files. You
can then drag and drop copy it into your start menu and populate it with
whatever.

There has to be someone out there with simple easy instructions how to do
it. I have it, up and running fine, but I guess I just had dumb luck.

In the meantime have a go at it with your 2000 disks and see if you can
isolate it and install it on its own. If not, go ahead and Custom install
Word 2000 in a separate obscure location away from the 2003 programs and see
if the SB pops out from that installation.

I'll be back if I discover a more solid solution. I will check my 2000
discs for the custom installation of just the SB.

I am sorry, but I don't quite understand this post. Are these instructions
for a .bat file or something of the like? Could you please clarify this.
Sorry.

Create an e-mail message /c ipm.note

means

navigate to C:\Program Files,Microsoft Office\OFFICE11
create a shortcut to Outlook.exe on the desktop
edit the properties of the Shortcuts Target to include
/c ipm.note
after the
"C:\Program Files,Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Outlook.exe"

so it looks like this.

"C:\Program Files,Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Outlook.exe" /c ipm.note

This will open a new message when clicked. You may place this shortcut
in the Quick Launch area or other Toolbar you wish to create from the
Taskbar area.

Now do the same with the others by copying the first and changing the
portion after the "/c"

Change Icon and lable to suit taste.

Man, it was a whole lot easier for the novice user before The Great and
Powerful Gates unilaterally decided that we didn't want the OSB...wasn't it?

You think that's bad, you should see the car owner that called Triple A
because the battery in her keyfob went dead, and she couldn't get into
her car. :)
