Office 2003 SP1 -- another victim

W

Will S

tried to apply. The OneNote SP1 worked fine. But Office SP1 says "this
update cannot be applied". No missing files or CD request. Have followed all
prior suggestions, emptying folders, etc. Can no longer detect and repair or
reinstall Office 2003, following update attempt.
This is pretty lame, honestly -- to buy the new version, follow the
procedures outlined, and have it wreck the installation is hardly good
business. I'm obviously not some isolated case, either.
Please post fix ASAP.
Thanks,
Will Stewart

Will, I think it will be necessary to review the MSI log file to understand
the exact cause of your failure. It will be in the same location as the
other file you attached with a file name like 'OHotfix(0000x)_Msi.log' where
'x' is a number. The file is likely going to be pretty large; so put it in
a Zip file and send it to me in email ([email protected] - remove
'.online' from the email address before sending).

The error you have described and your log fies are almost identical
to mine!
Waiting for a solution, I expect mine will be the same.

Looking at my OHotfix_MSI.log it seems the product vesion may be the
problem. I'm seeing -

Expected product {901A0C0A-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}, found product
{91E30409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}

multiple times with various slight discrepancies in the first
grouping.

My office version is 'Professional Edition 2003 Home User Program .
Word reports version No. 11.6113.6350

I was having the same problem, so i figured I'd just uninstall Office and reinstall. Ha! Not it won't install at all. Get a Error 1603. Any suggestions?

Fear of that (being unable to install at all) is the only reason I'm
not in the same position!
I have tried the repair and reinstall options from the CD and they now
fail otherwise I would have tried to uninstall / reinstall and
probably had no Office progs at all - that would be difficult!

To update the rest of you on Will's issue, his registry was missing a
registry key for the Local Install Source feature which broke the update.
Using the information from his log files and a registry dump, we were able
to manually fix the registry key. Then he was able to install successfully.

Jerry, can you put your log files from the %temp%\ohotfix folder in a Zip
file and attach them to a post to this thread? I'll take a look at your log
files. When contained in a Zip file, the upload should be pretty small
(under 100 kb).
