Hello,
I'd be so grateful if someone had another workaround to
the update problem I've encountered.
Tech support helped as far as they could and told me to
get a media replacement (see below).
Media Replacement is sending replacements, BUT: OneNote
is out of stock and not available until END-AUGUST.
Office will take 3-10 days to ship (so a week minimum).
Briefly, had update problems with Office and OneNote
2003, "Error 1402" being the main issue (full details
below).
Current state:
--Can't use OneNote at all--can't reinstall or do
anything.
--Can use some Office, but have to cancel "Installing..."
messages. Can't uninstall or reinstall.
--Windows Explorer hangs on Search, but can get to
folders and files. ?!?
I RELY on these programs--I use OneNote for my research
notes, and can't be without them until September (I know--
I can probably pull them into Word).
Questions:
Should I reinstall Windows (XP Home)? I'm reluctant to
take this step.
Then try installing trial versions?
Thank you for any suggestions,
Marianne
Comments:
Trying to get Office & OneNote running again, after
attempting updates, has been unbelievably painful
process.
I'm writing a letter to Microsoft. The individuals who've
assisted have been helpful and professional, but the
system and process has been extremely painful. The
current solution suggested to me would leave me without
OneNote for a month, and without Office for another 2
weeks. I'm writing my dissertation and can't be without
my research material for that long. I've spent 5 days
trying to fix this, and am no closer to being able to use
my programs.
**Previous post** [Office 2003 sp1]
I thought I'd post here and see if there's another
solution:
The main issue is Error 1402 (now when I try to reinstall
Office Pro): "Setup can't open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run\OptionalComponents\MSF ... verify that you have
sufficient permissions."
MS Support helped as far as they can, and suggest a media
replacement.
We tried:
msicuu2
cleanboot
- installing office
- still unable to install office [error 1402]
- media replacement
My pre-MS support attempts:
OneNote:
I uninstalled OneNote (beta upgrade) to reinstall it and
the upgrade not only failed, but I couldn't re-install
OneNote.
Fixes I attempted (Office and OneNote):
--Uninstalls or reinstalls failed.
--restored Windows XP Home to earlier point
--reinstall OneNote failed
--other messages: "required installation file SKU0A1.CAB
wasn't found--your MS Office installation has been
corrupted or removed.."
--used scanreg.exe, and the file was fine.
--deleted the Windows installer files for Office and
OneNote, inactivated my virus program, tried re-install--
got Error 1402.
--used LISTool, after which I couldn't remove Office 2003
(a "patch package" was missing)--same error for
installing.
--restored Windows XP HOme to previous points. Now
Windows Explorer hangs on "Search."
Oi Vey.
Current state: no OneNote, get 'Installing' window when I
use Outlook (Cancel works), Windows Explorer hangs
on 'search.'
Do I need to reinstall Windows? In addition to fixing the
Office issues?
Thanks so much for your help.
