I had installed the "Office 2003 SP2" update direct from the microsoft update
website. All seemed to install OK (at the second attempt). Since installing
this however, I had not been able to connect to send or receive e-mail. Prior
to installing, all e-mail was working OK.
I get error codes 0x80042109 & 0x80042108 - "Outlook is unable to connect to
your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet service
provider (ISP)".
I have checked all my e-mail settings and all are OK.
I have now performed a system restore to a time prior to the installation,
and all is now working OK again.
Overnight however, automatic update downloaded and re-installed the Office
2003 SP2 update. I had the same problem receiving e-mail (error 0x80042108).
I again restored to a time prior to the installation and the fault/error
cleared. I have now removed the auto-install of updates.
I got the errors when using Outlook after the Office 2003 SP2 had been
installed. I had no problems installing the update, in fact the update
auto-installed overnight the second time round. The update installed with no
apparent problems.
But after the update had been installed, when Outlook was sending &
receiving I got the error codes/messages.
Is there a problem with this Office 2003 update? or does the problem lie
elsewhere?
