Office 2003 SP2 and Saving Shared Files Fails w/Password Protectio

I have been working on an issue with Office 2003 SP2. After installing the
SP2 for Office 2003, we immediately started having problems on all computers
sharing/saving a large shared Excel sheet that was password protected. After
several weeks I have defintiely tracked a probem with Office 2003 SP2 that
causes a file save error if the file is password protected. If the password
protect is removed, the file save of the shared file happens normally. This
error, like most MS errors, is wrong and points to a lack of resources on the
computer, but it is a file save error. After removing password protection
from the Shared Excel file even the larger file saved normally. ( I have just
retested this after the Office 2003 update just released a few days ago and
it is still a problem. )

File has several print marcos, a little VB to process check digits,
conditional formatting, and is about 8Gig. Issue exists whether accessing
over the office network where file is located on a Win2003 Server or on a
hone peer-to-peer network where the file is located on another winXP SP2 OS
laptop. Both Computers have the latest Office 2003 SP2 and just released
Office 2003 updates.

Hi,

The excel file may have become corrupted after install Office 2003 sp2. This
could be a bug with Excel

I recommend to re-create the file with Office 2003 sp2 installed

Has there beeb any updates to this issue?

We are experiencing the same issue, except this happens with any spreadsheet
with sharing and password protect.

We can get around this by uninstalling the service pack but, this is not a
solution.

I haven't seen any updates to fix this issue yet. Although you would think
that the MS development teams would recognize this as an issue since sharing
and password protection should be normal for thier team projects. I am only
shareing files stored on the server as opposed to using a Sharepoint Server.
Maybe with Sharepoint or some other Server update this would work. Th issue
also exists when sharing peer-to-peer on a home network ( IE no Server ). We
stripped the passwords for the time being.

So have we heard any more news on this?

This is really starting to get annoying.

Please let me know, you can email me offline if you like.

I have reposted this in in the Office/Excel Application Errors section of MS'
suggestion site. Make sure that you have at least clicked the 'I Agree'
button on the button of this thread to let MS know that I am not the only
person that sees this as a problem.

The Excel 2003 Update just released today (3/14/2006) seems to solve this
issue that was caused with Shared Spreadsheets that where also password
protected after the installation of Office 2003 SP2. I have tested this AM on
my shared, password protected sheets.

If you find that there is still a kink in the fix, please post it back to
this thread.
