Office 2003 SP2 and SQL 2005 Sept CTP

Ok, I finally had a chance to try and install Office 2003 SP2 on a VPC I have
built for VSTO development which includes SQL Server 2005 September CTP.
SP2 will not install. I couldn't see what the problem was as I could with
SP1 (see my previous post on this matter), but I assume it is probably
related to the OWC11 components again.

Hopefully this problem will not exist with the release version of SQL Server
2005, but I thought I'd share this experience. This is especially relevant if
you are building VSTO solutions and are using SQL, VSTO, and Office all on
the same development machine...

Hi Peter - thanks for taking the time post. I'm not sure how your question is
relevant to the situation I am reporting? The answer to your question is my
post, btw.

Hi Luther,

The Office Web Components (OWC11) copy in the CTP
is different (in version) from the one that the
Office 2003 SP2 production update recognizes for patching.

Other than OWC11 (which you could rollback to the Office 11
installed version before patching if it's also part of your
Virtual PC setup) the rest of Office 11 should have been
patched successfully and the log file should indicate the
issue with OWC11

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.
