Hi TaurArian

I cannot get Office updates to install once downloaded. I have followed your
link and got as far as identifying the GUIDs. I have two GUIDs, one for
Office 2003 and one for Frontpage.

When I try to find the Office 2003 update logs however they are not where
stated. When I search for

OHotfix(#####).log
OHotfix(#####)_Msi.log

as part of file name 'OHotfix' using Windows Explorer I get 'no results to
display'.

I'm running Office Pro Ent Ed 2003 - English (91170409) The CD is genuine
Microsoft, a fully boxed upgrade to an earlier 2000 product.

Do you have different instructions for the Pro version please?

Best Regards
Bob

Only suggestions -

You could see if anything in this article relates:
How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the Office Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498

otherwise -

Suggestion 1:

Download the full updates for Office 2003 that you're trying to install and try installing them (you
might also leave the Office 2003 CD in the installation drive prior to installing the updates).

Suggestion 3:
Otherwise try repairing your installation of Office 2003

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office 2003 program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair, and then click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair errors in my Office
installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

See if anything here helps -

Otherwise you may have to repair/reinstall Office.
You could also try downloading the Full update from the MS site to see if you can install it
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...97-2DB6-4654-9DB6-EC7D5B4DD867&displaylang=en
Office2003SP2-KB887616-FullFile-ENU.exe
You could also try leaving the original Office CD in the installation drive whilst trying to
install.

Yeah, I have tried everything except re-installing. Looking for more of an
answer on "why" this does not work as much as how to fix it. -rob-

After two failed attempts to install this service pack (but two suuccessful
downloads), I came here and read through the replies. TaurArian's suggestion
#3 worked perfectly:

Start/Control panel/add remove programs/Microsoft Office/change then I just
clicked the options to repair Office. I DID need the CD inserted (it asked
for it).

Then when I went back to Microsoft updates, it recognized that the service
pack had already been downloaded and I clicked to install. Went on with no
problems.

So thank you TaurArian- I probably would have completely uninstalled Office
if I hadn't read your advice that it could be repaired.
