Office 2003 SP2 NEW install problem

I have W2k. Both auto updates and manual advise that I download SP2 after
scanning my computer. However, before installing it describes the download as
having 0kb and will, of course, take 0 minutes to download. Obviously, when I
download it, I'm informed that the install failed and sends a report to
Microsoft. So, if it recommends a download that is 0kb....how can I download
nothing!

I've attempted this many times in the past few months. Same thing. What's
going on?

I have MS Office2003 and had a similar problem. A msg after the failed
installation of the successful download suggested that required registry
items needed for installation were missing and may have been deleted by a
"registry cleanup" program. I went back to the registry cleanup programs
that I use and requested that they "restore" registry items that they had
deleted. I was then immediately able to install MS Office SP2 with no
problems! It is important to choose "back up registry before deleting
unecessary items" in these registry cleanup programs to make this possible!

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.
