Office 2003 starts OK and then slows right down

Office pro 2003 is fast enough for around 20 minutes after start-up and then
slows right down for opening files, using drop downs in e.g. Word / Excel,
saving files etc.
When I re-start, all goes faster for a while and then again slows down.
Any suggestions?

The first place I'd look is at your RAM, Virtual memory and temp folder(s)
to see if you need to change any settings there.

Do you meet the system requirements for RAM and disk space?
Did this just start happening?
Is it possible that you have a fixed virtual memory setting that is topping
out?
Is your temp file overloaded with files?

This is not a 2003 issue since I am having the same problem with 2007. It
takes for ever to display the directories to open files in any of the
softwares (Word, Excel, etc). Before I had that problem and it was because I
had network drives mapped and if the other computers that I was mapping to
were off the software would almost hang. I figured that out so all I had to
do was turn on all of the computers. Now I started having the same problem
and I think is because now the software is looking for jump drives or other
things that you connect through USB and the computer still registers them
even if they are not connected anymore. I haven't solved my issue yet and it
takes me 15 mins to attach a file to an email, so its getting really
frustrating. I'll let you know if I figure it out.
