Office 2003 student edition

I have noticed recently I am unable to open many word documents sent by
various parties. I have all updates applied as best I can tell, including one
that I believed was to address 2007 users sent attachments. Any thoughts?

MS Updates don’t install the compatibility pack. You need to go here,
download and install. Heed warnings about having all Office software up to
date before installing:

And this one which is SP 1 (note additional OS requirement for this SP that
aren't required in the above download)

Thanks for the thoughts, I had done this earlier with no success. Are there
any known security software impediments (i.e. Norton, Webroot)?

People have had issues with Norton for many years with Microsoft Office
programs. IMHO one of the worst bloat ware programs (Norton) on the market
and should be banned! Not familiar with Webroot as I have never used it but
since it is an antispyware program it may cause issues during the
installation.

Without the compatibility pack successfully installed into one of the Office
programs, the only other options are to install the latest version of Open
Office (which will read but not write 2007 version files.) or have the
people sending the files convert them into Office '97-2003 version before
emailing.
