Office 2003 Student & Teacher Edition

Tom Howells

Hi,

I am a student from the UK and have read a customer review
on Amazon.co.uk
(http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000BZ54S/ref=ed_art_525184_txt_1/026-1054609-3072414)
claiming that within the box for Office 2003 Student &
Teacher Edition there is a voucher allowing me to buy
Access 2003 for ?30.

I have wanted to buy Office 2003 for some time now,
however, as I am currently studying a HND course in
Computing, the fact that the student version of Office 2003
does not come with Access has been a major stumbling block
for me. If the above is true, that there is a voucher for
Access bundled with the software, then that is fantastic
news - but after looking through the Amazon site and the
Microsoft site I could not find any further information
about this offer.

Can someone please confirm whether this voucher is supplied
please? I do not want to spend £100 and then find out that
I cannot have Access for ?30, as I cannot afford the full
price for the standalone program and it is an essential
tool for my course.

Thanks for your help,

Tom Howells

Don't really know. But, to help you figure it out:

1. visit a near-by PCWorld or other software vendor. They have these
products on the shelves. Read the boxes carefully about contents and
ask the sales people questions, if necessary.
2. call a software vendor that will speak to you about this. Try
Greymatter. Maybe their web site will show authoritative info on this
packaging.
3. Look at the Microsoft UK web site.

Be prepared that this might have been a one-off offer.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Any advice you get here is hearsay - contact Microsoft for the correct
information, anyone here would be guessing at best. Having said that, the
only discount that I am aware of is for OneNote.

Hi

I am a student from Denmark and I recently bought the MS Office 2003 S/T edition
Inside were two vouchers - one for OneNote and one for Access

They both costed 150 DKK ( equivelant to app. 20-25£ )
I ordered OneNote ( you have to do it online ) and waited - and waited.... It took a bit over two weeks for it to arrive, but finally I received it yesterday and am currently sitting here thinking - "what am I ever going to use this for??

Despite it all one cannot refuse that it`s some bargain and I mainly bought it to see just ehat all the fuzz was about spo no hard feelings towards MS

My advice - if you need it or cannot restrain yourself from having a look for yourself - buy it

If you really want to see how much it has improved since its October 2003
release, download the SP-1 Preview and see how much work the team has put in
on improving OneNote.

One Note, from a student perspective is great, as I surf the web and find
items to include in my papers, one note does the documentation for you.

Enjoy it, nice deal for the price you paid...

The original release of One Note is a great program
Those who got in on the ground floor, programing/usage, can only make the product better
We use it in the field on laptops along with our cad design program when consulting with customers for our business
and as well in teaching at an area Jr. College in continuing education courses in our profession
As with all software built for the end user, you have to make it work for you,
bottom line....

Note to all OneNote users: Install the SP-1 Preview and you will find your
productivity increasing. The OneNote team has done a great job with SP-1.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've had a look on the
Greymatter website, but I don't think they even sell the
Student & Teacher Edition as I couldn't see it listed
anywhere. I may be able to look in PC World during the
week, although I didn't really want to buy it from there as
I'd be paying £35 more than I would pay at Amazon. I really
hope that this offer is available from Amazon as it sounds
like a fantastic deal; I've e-mailed them about it but you
know how hard it is to get a proper answer from customer
support!

OneNote doesn't really interest me; it's Access that I need
the most. Am I right in think OneNote is simply a
note-taking program that allows you to save things from web
pages etc? If that's the case then I already have the
QuickNote extension installed for Mozilla, which does the
same and is all I need (plus it's free).

Sorry that Greymatter didn't seem to help. Give them a call in the
morning. They will answer the phone and talk to you (which is why I
thought of them). PC World is simply a place to go look at the boxes.
(Only place I can think of in UK).

Frankly, if the offer is too good to be true, it might be.

Don't know about One Note. Microsoft has a lot of info published at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/onenote/prodinfo/default.mspx

Your school is also a source of getting educational licesned software,
maybe.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

No, none at all, but then again, I am testing SP-1 for Office 2003 as well
on the same machine.

I've already e-mailed Greymatter about it, so hopefully
they'll get back to me tomorrow. I did notice they sold
Office 2003 Professional on an academic license, so that's
always an option, but I'd rather not have the hassle of all
those forms and supplying ID etc. I see what you mean about
looking at the boxes in PC World now, that's a good idea,
although unfortunately there isn't a PC World or any
similar stores near where I live.

Thanks for the link for OneNote, I've downloaded the 60-day
trial so I'll give it a go and see what it's like. If it's
only 30 Euros then I may as well buy it if I find it useful.

Thanks for the info Andreas; it's much appreciated. Can you
tell me if there was a sticker on the box or something so I
know what to look out for please? And does it say anywhere
when the offer expires?

Just in case anyone does a search for this in future or
there's people around here who want to know, I contacted
Microsoft about the matter and they said the following:

********

Thank you for your e-mail in connection with Microsoft®
Office 2003 for Students and Teachers.

Although Microsoft Access is not included, a special offer
is currently available to Microsoft Office 2003 purchasers,
whereby both Microsoft Access and Microsoft One-Note® can
be purchased at greatly reduced prices.

All prices include VAT and shipping charges.
UK: Access £18.81 One Note: £12.54
Ireland: Access ?30 One Note: ?20

See the following web page for details.
https://officeoffer.one.microsoft.com/STO2003/1033/Offers.aspx

*********

I looked on their website at the link they provided, and it
says that the OneNote offer runs until 15 May 2004 and the
Access offer runs until 31 July 2005.

If you order it from Amazon you save a further £15 until
July, allowing you to buy Office 2003 Standard plus Access
and OneNote for a remarkable £116.34. All students should
take advantage of this great offer while they still can!
