I have a client having issues w/ the Outlook client from 2003 in Vista not
sending/receiving and it's been suggested to move to 2007 on her Vista OS...

I'm wondering here...should i remove 2003, reboot, then install 2007 or just
upgrade? Any thoughts are appreciated!!!

AFAIK Outlook 2003 should work perfectly well on Vista.....perhaps you
should post in an Outlook group with specific details.....

Upgrading because of an issue is not a valid reason to upgrade unless you
know the upgrade cures a specific bug, and there aren't any Outlook 2003
bugs that would cause this
There are other reasons for Outlook not sending / receiving which can be
cured.
ie what type of account? does outlook open? If you test the accounts, what
err.msgs are given, Is htis a new problem or?

i will try that I guess...thanks for the quick reply....it's a generic
error...."cannot contact your pop3 (or SMTP) server (0x80042108/42109).
Contact your network administrator or ISP....

ISP's always check settings and refer her to Microsoft because all looks
well in her mail accounts...checked myself and her web mail is fine, so I may
try an Outlook post...Thanks again so much

You might look at any AV integration with Outlook and disable it....

Thanks Gordon and DL....

account uses default pop/smtp ports...I can ping those servers, no
problem...can access her webmail...even recreated her profile, so maybe AV
integration is the issue and would I disable that from within an A.V. program
or Outlook itself...sorry to sound like a novice, but just haven't run into
this issue before!!!

Best regards folks

Disable within the AV application. Depending on the AV you might have to
uninstall and re-install minus the email scanning module....

she was using this stupid Embarq online security, which gives no option of
deselecting email integration...upon uninstalling it, Outlook is working like
magic....you saved my day, Gordon!!!

Check the advanced settings. I don't normally use Outlook but have had to set
it up a few times lately. For some reason, it's defaulted to port 587 instead
of the more usual 25 for SMTP/Outbound mail server. That caused outbound mail
to fail. Changing it back to 25 fixed everything.

Well, not everything. But it sends and receives mail now. <g>
