Have installed Office 2003 on Win XP Pro system. Initial
installation allowed "Check for updates" to be successful
and downloaded ~200MB of data and upgraded Office 2003
with no problems. However, my Visio program ceased to
work properly after that and an attempt was made to
install the new 2003 version of Visio. Problems ensued
and I wound up uninstalling Office. After re-installing
Office, the "Check for updates" fails with "Unable to
check for updates on this computer" and redirects me to
this URL:
http://officebeta.microsoft.com/home/office.aspx?

Without the technical refresh for Office 2003, the beta
Visio will not install. Have attempted to re-install
older version of Visio and that fails as well with an
error about "configuration files are corrupt".
Really need to acquire the technical refresh for Office
2003. Microsoft is not posting the actual refreshes on
their site (at least as far as I can tell). One can only
do a "Check for updates" to get the refresh.
Anyone have any ideas at all of how to get the update
check to be successful?
Thanks,
Steve
