Office 2003 to 2007 upgrade?

Is it possible to upgrade from Office 2003 to 2007 or do i need to do a
complete new install? I'd like to retain my Outlook settings, email addr's,
etc. Are the two products so duifferent under the hood that doing a clean
install is better? Possible conflicts between the two versions?

I couldn't see anything on Microsoft's site with official recommendations as
to how to upgrade. Any Advice?

Upgrading is fine, however after the upgrade you may need to create a new mail profile and configure it to use your current .pst file. The upgrade should find all of your documents and files but it is always a good idea to make a backup of your important items. The Outlook data file where all of your data is kept is call the .pst file, normally outlook.pst. You may also have one or more archive.pst files as well.

I should hope that the 2003 - 2007 upgrade finds all of its default files;
especially if the user is logged on to the network and the account is active
while conducting the upgrade. I have 32 of them to do on Tuesday, and do not
have the desire nor inclination to rebuild 32 user profiles from scratch.

If the upgrade procedure fails to locate all files, then it becomes
essentially a new install. This is for a United States Senator's office, so
should hope the product performs as advertised.

Hi Mike,

As with any software deployment, rather than relying on 'hope' <g> I would suggest that prior to doing that upgrade you become
familiar with both the product and the deployment documentation, in this case in the Office 2007 Resource Kit

There can be factors outside of the Office software itself, including 3rd party add-ins, that should be examined, and
file/customization settings that could need to be addressed.

Office 'finding its files' (by which I'm assuming you're talking about the file associations) is only one consideration, especially
in a business environment.
