office 2003 update checker does not work

i have office 2003. When i try to use the automatic update checker, It is
unable to find any updates . and tells me of several reasons why this is
happening .
1) missing .msp files, in other words the files of previous updates are
missing, and therefore it cant tell which updates i have installed or not
installed.

2) problems with the microsoft server.

can this problem be solved?

Have you tried to put in your Office installation CD and selecting the
Repair Option.?
