Office 2003 update detector, administrative patch won't work

Most grateful if anyone can help me out of this bind: The online update
detector doesnt work, and I cant update with the admin patch. Next I get the
message "The Product ID number you entered has expired. You may go back and
choose another support option or enter another Product ID number" when I try
to send an email support request. Is there some way out of this maze? Why is
my ID expired? This is a properly licensed and registered installation.
