Office 2003 update unsuccessful

Mary Lou

Hi,

I ran the Office 2003 update to get the latest 2 fixes,
but after downloading the files, the installation of them
is unsuccessful. When clicking the link to get
troubleshooting info, I get various links to articles
about Windows XP SP1 updates. NOne of tem seem to apply
to my situation.

I have Windows XP Home, with all critical updates, and
Office 2003 Student/Teacher edition (installed over
separately installed Word XP and Outlook XP versions).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

My experience exactly, except that I had installed the
2003 XP Student/Teacher over Office 2000 Professional and
into a separate folder.

I cannot install these 2 critical updates successfully, no
matter what I try...same troubleshooting links that don't
apply to my situation.

Hi Mary

Have to say this seems to be a common fault> I have
looked through support without much luck. I have had the
same problem as yourself and have to say I don't really
want to pay for support. SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. I have sent a
report to MS Office hopefully they will return a fix to
help us all

Do you have Student and Teacher editor as well? All of the problems we're
seeing seem to affect only that version. Microsoft is aware of the problem
and in most cases, running the updates from your hard drive works.

If the outlook junk mail update fails, I recommend not worrying about it-
many people feel it's less accurate.

I thought this was just my problem, but apparently not. I
upgraded Windows 98 to XP, and installed Office 2003
Standard over 2000 Premium. Same thing happened when I
downloaded KB828041; "Installation Unsuccessful". Hope
somebody has something on this one.
Thanks, Lyle
