Office 2003 Updated - now can't move/renam/delete files

I just updated Office, incl SP3. Now it is acting like XP did when I
installed SP3 for the OS... I can't delete/move/rename files after I have
opened them to read! After a few minutes or a reboot I can, but this is
absurd. Does anyone have a fix for this or do I have to completely uninstall
Office to get rid of the updates which are not able to be uninstalled
separately?

This is so frustrating!!!!! So much time wasted tracking down and fixing
problems created by upgrades and updates.
