Office 2003 updates redux

Running XP Home, Office 2003, and Publisher 2003 (a recent installation). I
previously ran Publisher 2000 but that seemed to be causing an update
problem with Office. MS tech told me that uninstalling Pub 2000 and
installing retail version of Pub 2003 would solve things.

I uninstalled Pub 2000 through add/remove and rebooted. Them did an online
scan for Office updates and received the message all was up to date.
Installed Pub 2003, the complete installation- not the typical. All seemed
to be going well until I ran another online scan for updates. I was told I
neede to install Office 2003 Service Pack 2. Clicked agree and install but
the download never completed. Rebooted without allowing my NAV 2005 or
Spysweepewr to start but got the same results.

The latest installer, 3.01, is installed according to add/remove.
Also I may have Service Pack 2-there is a file named MAINSP2ff with an
Update ID {FFB59000-EB47-45BC-842A-EFFBDA635C94}
